Highton, Geelong, 1967 and Barbi May was launched — gift wrapped in beautiful coloured tissue paper, furniture stripped back to raw wood, natural fibres in abundance and ‘must have’ homewares filled the shelves. Sceptics thought it wouldn’t last as Barbara was so young at the time, but today 40 years on her name, now Barbara Hermon, is synonymous with style and design.
As interior designer, importer and one half of Melbourne shopping icon Hermon & Hermon she was once advised to always stock ‘ooh-aah’ merchandise and this essence is still reflected in the Hermon & Hermon you see today.
